window xp going very slow

could someone please give me a step by step solution to me as im a complete novice on the pc my computer is going very slow but i have loads of free space

We would need a bit more info to really be able to help. System specs would be a start-
Manufacturer?
Model number?
HDD size?
Amount of memory installed?
Number of programs running?
Has your comp always run this slow or has this just started?

These are the basics. Please provide as much info about your system and how you use it as you can ;)

what virus software do you have? sounds like a virus

Virgin is your ISP, right?

I'm not sure what they are using as a base, but most ISPs that offer AV protection are using a 'branded' version of a major AV...I wonder if there is any way of finding out what is 'under the hood'? That would be a bit more helpful than whatever Virgin is calling it...
