hi all,

i have a western digital 80gb hard drive which i have been using since past 3 years. today morning when i turned on the computer, and went to MY Computer, i don't see my hard drive listed there. I tried it on other computers and the same problem persists. When I go to device manager and usb interfaces, i see it's listed under the name, USB Mass Storage Device. I tried updating the drive, turning off the disk couple times and than turning it on, disabling the write cache from policies tab but to no avail. Can anyone help what possibly could be the problem?

Its best to start a new thread otherwise things can get messy so I have split your post. off into a new one.

Mass storage devices are typically external enclosures. That is to say the enclosure and not the drive inside it. It could be that there is a bad connection or that the drive has failed. I would suggest removing the drive from the enclosure and slaving it directly to a PC and then check to see that it is recognised in that PC's BIOS. If so and the drive still does not appear in My Computer I would run the HDD maker's diagnostics on it.

hi...i got you...so as per you i am suppose to open the case of the hard drive and directly attach it to my computer as an internal drive?
