Basically, I'm coming into a large sum of money, but i haven't kept up with the latest pc news, and how much bigger of an upgrade DDR3 is from DDR2, or really much lately.

I want to know what to buy, where i can order online, and why i should get it as opposed to something cheaper/more expensive.

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif

Rather than simply asking us to tell you what to get, please read through similar posts in this forum and some of the guides that have been posted, then be specific about what you need and want in a computer... $5000 is capable of buying a very powerful system, but if you are only doing a bit of word processing and surfing the web, it would be way overkill... If you are doing CAD or video editing, it might make more sense... If you don't want to waste time and energy with ideas that don't apply, give more detail...

WOW thats a nice amount

have a look on newegg (http://www.newegg.com/)and put together a system you thinking off
you will need
-MOBO
-CPU (intel is your best bet at the moment)
-RAM
-Graphics card
-PSU
-HDD
-DVD-RW
-Keyboard
-Monitor
-Mouse/Mat
-Case
-Speakers

and then post it back and me and probably AJ will perfect it

Intel and Pentium are different things well different models...

Core 2 Duo is the newer CPU's and Pentium is Intels old CPU's

and then post it back and me and probably AJ will perfect it

i am getting 403 error when visiting, so i haven't been on lately

and yes, PENTIUMS (it is almost 3 years since the last P4 was produced!) are bad, but the CORE 2 line is GREAT (Brand new CPU line, less than a year since the first one was produced!)

So.. what will this computer be for?
Gaming, Word processing, Surfing the Internet, College....

No one said he couldn't spend whatever he wanted... Maybe it isn't important to you what the computer will be used for, but most people view a $5K investment as worthy of a little consideration of how that money will actually be used... I doubt Lidemi posted just so you could have fun fantasizing about spending someone else's money...

I don't have time this early in the morning, because i have to work. But i see what you're sayin and i'll give it a shot later today.

But in the meantime i've chosen a motherboard

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131181

I need to know if this will support 2 video cards, or just one. And help finding a cooling system (Preferably water) and perhaps a case to help me fit it into.

Are you going to play games on this computer?

And no- it will not support 2 Video Cards

EDIT: i stand corrected... it has two PCIe Slots...

that is a very good motherboard...

The case I can help with

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129025

I have one of these and it works great
The Mother board you selected is on the same line as Mine also ( p5k-ws )
The case supports water cooling and can be adapted to a number of units. Both external and internal

A) It is important to me what he uses the system for, i will advise him appropriately for what he needs it for. Also the title of the thread says $5000 to blow, build me a gaming rig.

B) Yes i no $5K is alot of money and i do (like with most posts) research and think about what i put down

C) Im not fantasizing about the money he has to spend at all.. Im quite sure if someone gave me $5K to spend on a PC i would be happy

Lidemi I wouldn't advise getting that MOBO you are better of getting a X38 chipset like this one
