I'm a bit of a computer newbie, and I just purchased a USB dual port cable, along with a webcam to go with my 3-year-old Pentium MMX 233 computer. However, I can't find the sockets on which the port hubs go. Can someone help me out here? PLEASE?!

Here is a very BIG bone to gnaw on: www.usbman.com (http://www.usbman.com) check out the Q&A forum for some related posts regarding connections etc. The 430TX chipset does support USB from what I've read, but there have been issues with bus mastering etc. Also, not sure of your cabling ends, there are several diff types of connectors for USB...this may be covered on the usbman site as well. Still looking for a connector guide with pics to help me & you with naming and functions of the diff connectors. I thought there were two diff ends until I picked up a digital camera one day. I use HP 215 Photosmart on a 7 port hub at work on Dell Dimension 4100 and the familiar cabling is there to make it easy (except of course for the connection to the camera is diff, then there is the connector for the printer, etc.) http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Edit: Here are a couple of links http://www.cablemax.com/cablemax/usb.html http://www.cablingdirectory.com/techinfo/connectorinfo/usb.htm http://www.usbsite.8m.com/ http://www.usbgear.net/

There should be enough info in there to help you identify the connectors. If not, try using the www.google.com (http://www.google.com) search engine.

If you cant connect the USB to the motherboard, there is still the option of buying a PCI USB card - it has two USB connectors on it as well and just plugs into a PCI slot.......works fine as long as you are running Win98.
