Hope someone can help. I have a linksys wireless router that I am using with my notepad, and it is not secured. How do I secure this router? I also have my Vonege phone plugged into the router.

A couple of options
1st. enable wap
2nd. turn off broadcasting

turning off broad casting tells the router to stop sending out a signal announcing it is even there
You will need to setup the security on the router first
then save the info to your laptop so it knows what to connect to

3rd. if you want to stop all access then set the router to allow Only mac address ( limit it to Your laptop mac address only

What if anything these changes will have on your Vonege phone
I can't say. Buy it the phone is connected by hardwire so if you limit wireless only it shouldn't cause any problems

if it does. Then I would call Vonege

First of all thanks for the reply. Is there somewhere I can get me a step by step instructions on how to do this that you are telling. When it comes to internet accessing and settings this is where I am lost. I am just not good at it. Just point me in the right direction and I will take it from there.
Thanks again.

What is the model of Linksys?
You need to open a browser, type 192.168.1.1 into the address window and Enter.
You then need the admin password to enter the admin console for the router.

My suggestion for the newbie would be to phone Linksys tech-support and have them walk you through setup. I have been an advocate for Linksys tech-support because of my personal experience with them. I have had a good experience every time I've needed their help! ;)
