Can you use Windows XP Fax with Lotus Notes?
There seems to be a lot of questions about this service, but I'm not finding too many answers. The only thing I found from MS was that it requires a Class 1 faxmodem (duh!). A few of the things I did read seem to indicate a strong link between the two, but I don't know if it is one 'needs' the other or if it is just the easiest way to do things...

I know. I couldn't find any sites that really helped me understand the features and requirements for Windows XP Fax. I'm going to have to get a Microsoft Live ID to talk to a MS rep., for free.
Maybe that is why I've never really tried to do anything with it before...too big of a headache. I've found third party fax implementations to be just a tad bit easier to deal with...including the *nix solutions.

The native fax feature for XP is a "printing service". You can setup a fax printer from the printers console. When you want to send your fax just choose Print from the applications file menu and select Fax from the dropdown list. I seldom send faxes but it has always worked fine for me. Not sure about how you set it to receive - or whether that can be done.
The first time you use it there may be a bit of setting or prefernces (cover page stuff etc which I usually do away with) but it remembers old fax addresses used and suchlike, when you come back to it in the future.
PS It can also receive but I cant test out here since moving to BB I have no modem installed.
