I have a Dell Dimension 8300.

I have a problem playing DVD’s on my PC. I was using SpyBot and I think I let it delete an important file.
When I put a dvd in my dvd drive my screen goes blank’ I then press Ctrl Alt Del and the screen comes back. On the bottom bar I then see a Dell icon. I right click on it and close it. I went into add and remove and tried to delete Dell Media Experience. I get the message – An installation Support file could not be found, and won’t let me delete it. When I click on the icon in all Programs the screen goes blank just like when I try to play a DVD. When I click on Cyberlink Suite I get the message Power Starter.Exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Would any know what I can do to sort this out?

Many thanks
Wexy.

Go to dells website and select "support" and try to get a download of a newer version of the "DVD" software...

OR...
1. Change the player listed as the default player...
To one that is fully functional.
The [portable] VideoLAN - VLC media player (http://www.videolan.org/) is good, I can recommend it.

OR...
Leave your present player as the default, and...

2. Hit the "Shift" key when you close the drawer to prevent the DVD auto-playing, then run a suitable player and play the video manually.

Or...
3. Disable auto-play and run a suitable player and play the video manually.

4. If you install OpenExpert (http://www.baxbex.com/downloads.html) [bottom of the page] you would then be able to right-click on any file type [your video file?] and allocate/list any number of programs that are installed and capable of opening the files.
Then when you next right-click, you could choose any one of those to "Open" the file. [Play the video]
