me and my gf are building this new computer from the bottom up and using some old componets in it:

10 GIG HD
PCI MODEM
Floppy Drive
2 x 32 MB RAM

The following are all BRAND NEW:

300 WATT ATX CASE
MOBO
750 Duron
128 MB RAM
12x DVD
8x 4x 32x CDRW
ATI VID CARD

here is the question/problem.

the RAM, DVD, CDRW all work fine in the old computer, ZERO PROBLEMS ..

when the DVD, CDRW and HD are moved over ..

they seem NOT to get any power. The front lights of the Drives arent getting lit up and i cant open and close the drives, cause of the power.

I also don't hear the HD beep and spin as the power goes on.

On the CASE light, only the RED LIGHT STAYS ON ... and the Floppy light also stays on.

This is bugging me ... and i cant pin point the problem.

I've tried isolating the problem, by just installing the HD and no deal.

what could be the problem?

ive never done this really, so what should the first screen look like?

the monitor is gonna have to run off a brand new vid card so that means no drivers .. will that be ok?

should i format the drive first?

please help ....

Welcome, Shotiba! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Sounds like a few different things you can check:

• Power supply connections to motherboard
• Data cable connections for correct orientation with pin 1
• Jumper settings on the motherboard and the drives

The best way to start is with just these:

• Motherboard with CPU, heatsink and fan, and one RAM stick
• One hard drive set as master on IDE channel 1
• The DVD drive set as master on IDE channel 2
• The floppy drive and the video card
• Monitor, keyboard and mouse hooked up

Then put a boot disk in drive A:, power up, go to the
BIOS setup program, select 'Default Values', 'Auto' for
the drives, 'Save Changes' and Exit, and let the boot continue.

Then you can add the modem and RW after you have everything
else up and running. Lots easier to troubleshoot this way.

Good Luck! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Sounds like your floppy cable is backwards.
