Hello...

I am hoping that there may be someone on here who can help a poor ol' dad in his hour of need.... I am a complete novice when it comes to computers. However, I want to set my son and daughter up with their own computers.

I have an Apple Mac G4 running OSX 10.2.8

I also have a PC running Windows XP

Previously, the Mac (my son's computer) was the only one connected to the Internet. My daughter just used hers for MS Word and games. But my daughter then decided she wanted the Internet too. And the conversation went something like: 'It's easy Dad... just buy a wireless router...' If only!

I've purchased a Zoom ADSL X6 and a Belkin Wireless G USB Network Adapter to carry out the 'easy task'...

As the Mac was already set up for the Internet, all I had to do was to reconfigure it as per the manual..... simple.... done.... the Mac works perfectly on the Internet.... then it was time to add the PC to the network.... simple... load the software from the CD, follow the instructions, plug in the adapter....

....and this is where I'm stuck.... I know I may be being a bit naïve here, but shouldn't I just be able to click on the Internet and then tell my kids how clever their Dad is????

If anyone can help (in a step-by-step idiot's guide format) then I will be eternally grateful....

Cheers,
Brian

Is the PC attached by cable of by wireless?

If attached by cable to one of the four sockets on the router there should be little configuration involved since internet connectivity is known to be OK. You might need to change a static IP to dynamic to allow the router to assign the IP address using its own DHCP.

RClick on Network Places and choose Properties. RClick on the LAN adapter and choose properties. Highlight the relevant Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and hit Properties. Obtain an IP address and obtain a DNS server address should both be set to automatically.

Using the USB dongle to connect wirelessly is bit more involved.

You are asking for Apple hardware and operating directions on a PC site.
You would find Mac help on a Mac forum, so gave you a link to where you could find a Macintosh forum.
Apple hardware of that vintage is "proprietary" and was never intended for a PC operating system.
