One of my systems has 73 Desktop.ini files. 20 or so seem to be temporary Internet files.
Who/what creates them and/or needs them? They do not bother me, but I am curious. Would Windows 98 turn into DOS 6.22 if I got rid of them or would it just hang up more often?
Actualy, the Windows 98 on my older system has been damn stable, and my new system looks as though it will be stable when I figure out why my sound card causes problems.
Slight weirdity: Every Recycle bin except the one on my C-drive has a hidden Desktop.ini file. Explorer does not show these and disk cleanup does not get rid of them. BTW: My Explorer settings result in other system and hidden files being shown. I noticed these when using a utility called Ztree, which I find handier than Explorer for some purposes.
Microsoft acts like a beneovelent big brother who is afraid to let us know everything. I guess that erasing the Desktop.ini files from the recycle bins would cause some weird trouble.
I wonder if there are other files MS tries to keep hidden from us.
