I'm a bit of a newb so I need some advice on which of these I should get... I can see that the core clock on the cheap one is only 25 mhz slower... is there something I'm missing besides that?

One is superclocked and the other is overclocked. I'm assuming the overclocked one is better, just because I've never heard of superclocking, but I am a newb as well, still learning things, so I really can't add more that assumptions :)

Ok superclocked is just EVGA's way of saying really overclocked
The BFG is 25Mhz slower on the core and 100Mhz slower in the RAM..
This wont make much of a difference in performance at all (very slight 1-3%)
so its not worth paying an extra $52 for the EVGA (thats a 20% increase )..
You pay a larger amount more for the OC'ed card because
-they have little more performance
-If you OC a card yourself it void the warranty to you you are more reluctant to do it yourself

One comes from Newegg and the other comes from Best Buy! :D
eVGA, BFG, and XFX make the best vid cards for gamers these days. Some of the other big names, like Asus and Abit, long ago lost my confidence in the vid card arena when they started charging a premium just for their name! This led a lot of newbies at the time down the wrong path, with the assumption that an Asus vid card works best with an Asus mobo! Bad Asus! Bad! So many people new to building over-spent by as much as $100  on their vid card! It will take a looooong time for me to forgive them...
Then again, with "the big three" making such great vid cards, why should I even consider recommending Asus vid cards these days? :p

I think they have all told the differences.
