i have a Radeon x1650 pro 512MB card
and even though the rest of my system is behind kinda
(768MB PC 100 SDRAM)
i lose frames in GTA III, i know this shouldnt be happening
the minimum requirement in that game for a GPU is 16MB
I should be running here at 60 fps in 1280x1024 :p
With that the game wont let me change out of the default resolution (640x480x20) and im still losing frames.

The offical sys requirements for GTA III are as follows

* 450MHz Intel Pentium III or AMD Athlon CPU
* 96MB RAM
* 8xCD-ROM drive
* 500 MB hard disk space
* 16 MB DirectX 8.1 compatible graphics card
* DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
* Windows 98/98 SE/Me/2000/XP

and my sys specs are listed below

* 1500MHz Pentium IV Processor
* 768MB RAM
* 20xCD-ROM drive
* 512MB ATI Radeon x1650Pro
* Sound Blaster Live! PCI Sound
* Windows 2000/XP *i list XP and 2000 because i play GTA in both*

So, why am i losing frames?

Radeon x1650PRO:
is a MID-RANGE card;
and that the GPU clock cycles are lower...
etc.

but i agree, you should be able to play it at pretty high settings.
what is the temp?

o_o i checked my temps using Everest Ultimate
everything seemed okay, my CPU temp seemed a little high (49C)
but my graphic card temp was great (55C)
one thing that caught my eye though
this must be a misreading on Everest, what do you think

the game wont let me change out of the default resolution (640x480x20)We need to address this problem first. This is the most serious symptom I'm seeing. Why can't you change the res?? Something is very wrong here.

I don't know, when i go to the Display section under options the "change resolution" option is darkened out so i can't change it.
(Same thing happens with GTA Vice City too, btw)

Your temps are fine by the way. very common temps with a pentium 4 (you have a prescott for sure, right?) and a modern GPU. The threshold for my GPU is 130 C
