Hey guys a friend of mine just told me that amd might be bought out by another company. Is this true and why is this? Also what will happen to ati if they get bought out. Didn't amd already buy ati so now amd is ati?

No, I have not heard anything like that.
AMD and Transmeta did some cross pollination/investment to use some of Transmeta's power saving technology in AMD products.
IBM supplied some technology allowing AMD to get to the 32nm chip fabrication prototype stage, an ongoing relationship as IBM has helped AMD with their 90nm processors, and subsequent ones.
AMD is having a really bad time right now due to a bug in Barcellona and Phenom chips that make them run MUCH slower than they should due to a internal cache access issue.

They also just dropped their next generation chip Bulldozer from their roadmaps entirely. This means Fusion will not be based on the next gen chip technology either.
They also delayed their ATI R700 chips to 2009.

And yes, AMD bought ATI,
They now admit they may have overpaid for ATI by a few billion.
