I have XP Home edition which I've had for several years. Yesterday, I reformatted and brought it back to the original factory settings. I'm in the process now of getting everything to the way I want it. I've had no problems except for one annoyance. It won't stay in hibernation mode. When I put it in hibernation, it will only stay there for about two minutes and then it will turn itself back on. I've never had this problem before.

Have you made sure that you've installed all the appropriate drivers from the manufactorer?

Yes, as far as I know, all the drivers are up to date....

When I hibernate my PC it closes Windows and powers off the hardware, so it isn't possible for it to power on again.
When I used it [don't now] I had it configured so that when I hit the "Sleep" button on the keyboard it hibernated. :)

Have you checked your BIOS Setup's "Power Management" configuration settings?
And the Windows Control Panel "Power Options" configuration settings?

I checked the settings in Power Options and they seem to be set correctly. But, I will look in the BIOS setting to see if there is anything there.

I just took a peek in the BIOS and the only option under Power was what action to take after AC power failure. I chose "Stay off". I then went to Control panel/ Power Options. Under the Hibernate tab, I selected "Enable Hibernation". Under Power Schemes where you choose when you want it to go into Hibernation or Standby, I selected "Never". I chose that because I don't want it to go into hibernation until I want it to. Wonder if I should change anything there. But, I believe that's the way I have always had it set. I have noticed one thing since I first posted on this. When I put it into Standby or Hibernation, it will take any where from a few seconds to 20 minutes before it turns back on--like whenever it makes up it's mind to.

That's the way I've alway had it set. It's funny, but I think all of my settings are correct. I'm going to do a little more looking on google and see if there is any thing there.

Your Windows XP-based computer powers back up after you put it on standby or in hibernation (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884903/en-us).

Your computer may unexpectedly resume from standby or hibernation (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810719/en-us).

Thanks, Sylvander--I owe you a glass of beer! The second link provided the answer. I went in device manager and right-clicked on my network adapter, chose Properties then clicked the Power Management tab. There was a check mark in the box that said, "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby." I cleared the check mark and that solved my problem. So the next beer is on me--I'm buying.:)
