I have a P4 (2.66GHZ) with 1.5 GB Ram (PC2700) machine.
Runing Vista is kind of slow, so if I invest in another gig or two of ram will I see much bigger increase in speed?

Should increase the speed considerably, especially if you're running 64 bit Vista.

Even Vista 32 bit will run faster, the 32 bit OS can address about 3.5 Gigs by itself.

Feed vista as much ram as you can. 2GB minimum. ;)

Ok, but will increase in speed be dramataic or minimal since its P4 2.66 ?

So should I invest in memory or it is better to invest in a new mb and processor ???

That is an excellent question, Vista has a reputation of sluggishness vs XP.
Dual core processors and a lot of RAM and a good video card are all much better to make the Vista OS perform.

Since you are talking PC2700 that means your P4 is a s478. Yeah, it's time for a core upgrade. ;) I wouldn't invest too much money in an aging system like that.

For vista to run nicely you need
-dual core CPU
-2Gb of RAM
-DX10 (cheap or expensive) graphics card

Well i core upgrade would be great (if you can afford it..) but there will be a large difference in speed and load up time with more RAM

how much of your CPU is being used on idle? does it max out often if so thats the sign you got to start thing to the future http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/images/smilies/tongue.gif

I have a good graphics card Radeon X1650 512 mem (4.2 score)

Also I realy don't want to upgrade to a new chip now, I want my next processor to be the Intel 100-core ;)

Anyway I have a dual boot with xp, so I can use it for cpu-intensive porgrams. So I guess I will just get the 2 additional gigs of ram.
