Hello,

I am helping a friend move files from his XP service pack 2 computer to his Vista laptop using the Windows Easy File Transfer app. We are using the belkin USB easy transfer cable. We are able to get the files to transfer, so it says. But we are unable to find them anywhere on the Vista laptop after completion. He does not want to move settings and such, just some music files. To experiement I used the advanced option and choose one single music file to move. It did this and the XP machine says it was successful and so does the Vista machine. But it is no where to be found on the computer. His profile is the only profile on the computer and he does have admin rights. The guest account is turned off. When the Vista machine shows its successful it shows us the path. That is the path of the file on the XP machine, that path does not exist on the Vista machine. Does anyone have an idea of where the file is going? Using the Vista search to search the entire computer does not show the file anywhere. There is no option to ask where we want to have the files go. I find the options in the app very limited.

Try logging off and back on again. Then check if the seetings/files where loaded to the Vista box.

Hope this helps!

Go to My Computer, or the start menu.
In My Computer right click your drive which the files should be on
Then click search, type in one of the songs names or a file, it should appear with the correct path to the file given
For the start menu just type in a name of a song or file, it should retrieve it.

I'll pass this information along. I'll post back any results that we get.

It turns out the software needed to be installed on both computers. Which the instructions did not mention. My friend has done this and reports it is working fine now. :)
