I recently reinstalled Windows Visat (about a week or so ago) to refresh my system and start anew. Along with that I also upgraded my computer to 2GB system memory.

In the last couple of days, I've noticed that Windows is starting unusually slow. I noticed it happening yesterday (12/23) and going forward. It will get to the welcome screen then pause for 5 - 10 seconds, then a blank screen (with a movable mouse cursor)...then pause for another 5 - 10 seconds w/ no HDD activity. I used system restore to go back to 12/20/2007 where I knew the system was starting up fine at that time.

I checked system event view and found a few errors on the last couple of bootups.:

Error #1 -- IRQARB: ACPI BIOS does not contain an IRQ for the device in PCI slot 5, function 0. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance.

Error #2 -- IRQARB: ACPI BIOS does not contain an IRQ for the device in PCI slot 6, function 0. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance.

I know it's not my memory since I was not having boot up problems after the memory installation and now am at a standstill on what it could be. Below is my current PC specs. I would appreciate any feedback to resove this issue.

Dell Insprion 1501
AMD Turion 64x2 (1.8GHz)
2GB Memory
80 GB HDD
ATI Radeon Xpress Series graphics

I forgot to mention, the computer is a laptop....no PCI slots to speak of.

Are you running the latest BIOS for this? Is ACPI enabled in BIOS?

I am using the latest BIOS for this computer. The BIOS itself is very simple and does not have a lot of advanced options that I'm used to seeing when I build a computer.

I assume that ACPI is enabled as the BIOS doesn't indicate either way. Is there something in Device Manager where I can verify this?

In device manger
Look for " Computer" open the subfolder
It should be listed as "ACPI X86 based PC " or something to that affect

You did a clean install
Did you download and install the latest chipset and other drivers from dell?

The ACPI is among those drivers

I've verified that ACPI is installed in Device Manager and working properly

I had initially did a clean install of Windows Vista a couple of weeks ago. At that time I downloaded the latest BIOS and updates applicable to my laptop. When I searched available downloads for my model, there was no driver specifically for ACPI.

It would probably be listed as Chipset or Mohterboard drivers. When I look on Dell they list a three drivers under the Chipset section, did you install all three? (They are for different devices).

There was only one chipset when I changed the OS from Windows XP to Windows Vista. That chipset driver is for "Ricoh Memory Card Drivers for Vista 32-Bit and XP/2K" which I don't believe I have on this laptop.

I guess I'm wonderning if the slow boot up time would be attibuted to the errors logged in Event Viewer with ACPI. I remember that when I first re-installed Windows Vista, things started up nice and fast. Then something happened about a week after. The only thing I installed after the fact was Office 2007 and not long after Office 2007 SP1.
