I play quake 2 with a logitech mouseman3 4 button mouse that I have used for several years. Recently, my mouse started jittering around like crazy to the point that I cannot play the game. It seems ok in windows as long as you dont move it around fast. I know it is not a short in the cable because I have changed it out 3 times now. I recently got a cable modem and my 56k internal modem is still attached. Surely this would not be the problem. My mouse is a ps/2 mouse that also can be used as a serial mouse. I plugged it in my serial connection with the adapter and I cant get the computer to recognize the moouse. I thought this would isolate the problem if it was my ps/2 port. Does anyone have any ideas what I could do to find the root of the problem and correct it. thanks
Take the bottom off the mouse and give it a god cleaning, making sure the wheels are clean, clean the ball well also. then check to see if there are any device conflicts in device manager. Then boot into "safe mode" go to device manager and see if there are any duplicate listings and remove them.

Check your other post, that's already been explained.
Clean the mouse with Q-tips and rubbing alcohol, and NEVER clean or unplug a PS/2 mouse while the computer is powered up.
