hi guys. anyways i've had this computer for a few years. all the CDs for it are lost/gone. its an eMachines. it had Windows XP HOME to begin with but i reformatted it with windows xp pro. it has a wireless adapter antenna thing (instead of an ethernet cord). basically i reformatted my other computer and during the set-up it gave me an internet connection wizard or something. so when i booted it up i had internet right away. no problems with it even without any cds for it either. but i can not set up an internet connection with this eMachines. it did not give me the internet wizard thing during the reformat. so there is no internet connectivity at all. what can I do? am i completely f***ed for reformatting it without any driver cds? how can i get the internet working? i've tried everything. please help.

Hi Ineed,
First thing I would do is go to Device Manager and make sure everything is being seen. I have an MSI mobo that you have to put in the ethernet drivers and a netgear wireless adapter that you have to put in drivers for.
Get your model number off the emachines computer and go to the emachines site and look for drivers for it. Get the name and model of your wireless adapter and go to that site and look for the drivers for that. Most times drivers are required for cards and adapters to work correctly. Windows might know they are there but doesn't know what to do with them till the drivers are put in. Reformatting without disks can be very frustrating. I sometimes have to do that and then have to go on what I call a driver hunt. DriverGuide can sometimes be a help, they have lots of drivers for all sorts of different things but you have got to know what you are looking for, model numbers, sometimes chip numbers.
