Hi all. I am trying to set up a wireless network using a Belkin N1 router for my Bigpond cable extreme broadband. I have set up the router on my main PC with no problems. However when I run the network setup wizard on my Windows XP for the purpose of connecting a laptop and PS3 wirelessly, and select "This computer connects directly to the Internet" (which it does) the system tells me "Other computers cannot connect to the Internet through this computer".

I cannot understand why this has occurred as this is the PC which connects to my cable modem. I have disabled the Windows firewall and tried again without success. Can anyone please help me as I want to connect a laptop and my PS3 in a wireless network.

You have to pull out the instructions for your router. You have to enable the wireless function, set-up the security level and record the security key. You will need the key to connect to the network. Don't bother with the wireless wizard.

Make sure the wireless card on the notebook is enabled.
Rt click on the choose available wireless networks
Select your wireless network
Click connect
Enter the security key when asked
Surf away.....

You are attempting to connect "through" your connected PC...you need to connect "through" your router...

You setup the router using your PC...supplying the router with a security key, etc. Now, you need to connect your other PC/laptop to the router as classic points out.

Thanks for your suggestions. I have enabled the router by the transmit SSID function being ticked (I can't find any other way of enabling the wireless function). My laptop cannot see the available network despite it being a few feet away. The 'wireless network' light on the Belkin is also not illuminated.

We have a winner. You either need to find this in the router's firmware or call Belkin Tech Support to see how to enable this.....

...call Belkin Tech SupportTech Support...a good place to go when initially setting a router up. Firmware updates pretty regularly and my suggestion would also be to have them walk you through the whole deal.

Thanks guys. Tech support worked. I now have my laptop and PS3 all working wirelessly. Belkin tech support was very good.

Thanks for taking the time to let us know all is well! ;) Also, for letting us know you were satisfied with Belkin's tech-spport...that is good to know as we often refer folks to the router manufacturer for initial setup.
