Hello
I recently got a Wii for Christmas and decided I wanted to be able to connect it to the Net for updates/games/etc. I went out and bought a WRT54G since it does wireless G just like the Wii. I installed the setup software that came with it and was able to clone all of the old router settings to the new router (my old router is the 4 port Linksys model....wired).
All is working fine....except I get huge lag spikes when trying to play online games (I mainly play BF2). I did a bunch of google searching and came across some tips/tricks that managed to help slightly but not cure the problem.
There are only 2 connections total....the WIRED connection to my PC and the wireless connection to the Wii. I have verified that the lag spikes do still occur when the Connect24 option is turned off on the Wii (meaning it can't just connect whenever it wants...even if the Wii is in standby).
I have the default security turned on WPA/TKIP for wireless.
First I made sure I had the latest firmware (came with the latest...8.00.2).
Second I figured out the MTU and changed the router setting from auto to manual to the MTU setting that worked (1472 was the max value that pinged thru....so I added the 28 and set the MTU to 1500).
Thirdly I went into the Applications and Gaming tab on the router and selected the QoS screen. Under Ethernet priority, I set port 1 to HIGH priority and flow control ON.
This is really starting to irritate me because as far as the computer is concerned it isn't connected any different than it was before (both Linksys routers, both hard wired ethernet connections and it copied the settings from the old router to the new). I'm not a big networking guru so I'm at a loss as to what to try next.
Please help! Thanks in advance!
