hey guys, i am planning on building a new computer, (my first build)
computer will be used for alot of internet use, i have 20 meg broadband so must be able to use to full potential, and also gaming including crysis
was wondering what would be better/faster to get
a fast duel core 3.4- 4ghz or like a 2.4-2.8 quad core and please explain the difference
thanks in advance

For right now a dual core would be best for price/performance. Later on quad cores will be more necessary for games but not yes (Except Crysis, which only performs marginally better on a quad core).

The difference is 2 CPU's vs. 4 CPU's.

thanks for the help, should i think about getting the quad core for the future,
or get the fastest duel core out there and wait then upgrade in future?
thanks again in advance

fast duel core 3.4- 4ghz
That wouldn't be a Pentium D, would it?

Don't buy anything less then a Core 2 Duo E6300 or E4500 or maybe a Pentium Duel-Core (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010340343+50001157+1389627502+1050922273+105072 9314&Configurator=&Subcategory=343&description=&Ntk=&srchInDesc=). They are based on the Core 2 micro architecture

You can't go by the processor speed in MHz anymore.

Core 2 Duo E6300 @ 1.86GHz bench-marked against the Pentium D 960 @ 3.6GHz (http://www.techspot.com/review/8-intel_core_2_duo_family/)
take into account that that review was written August 2, 2006 and there have been many more processors added to the Core 2 line up including the Core 2 Quads

The Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Conroe 3.0GHz is the fastest duel-core and the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 Kentsfield 2.66GHz is the fastest quad-core if you don't count the Core 2 Extreme CPUs.

thanks!
so what would be fastest out of these two?

intel core 2 duo E6850 3.00ghz conroe (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-156-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=793)
or
core 2 duo E8500 3.16ghz wolfdale (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-193-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=793)

there about the same price and im thinking of buying one of them
thanks in advance

the E8500

and its 45nm so it will run cooler and be better on the whole

i dont really understand this 45nm, what is it and why does it make a processor good?
