I just bought a Western Digital Passport 250 Gb harddrive and it works fine. It's making a clicking noise but it is still working. Is this normal or do i have a bad drive. Thanks.

I had that issue before too (back in the Philippines)

It was a western digital (80 gb). It is also making the clicking noise but is working. But mine has this instance that it will crash my windows (BSOD) saying that the drive is accessible (or something like that - i remember it vaguely).

I didn't take any chances, I bought a new one and just kept the old one.

My internal HDD sometimes makes clicking noises when the PC is engaged in certain activity using certain software.

I have come to the conclusion that in my case this is normal behaviour.
The HDD appears to be working just fine. :)

Download the drive diagnostic software from Western Digital and run it on your drive.

I am of the opinion that clicking drives are something to worry about.
They only click, because the read/write heads are having a hard time reading/writing data.
It could be faulty heads, or faulty disc surface.

The drive software should be able to tell you for sure if there is a problem.

dpt206, I would love to know what you found out after you diagnose it. I am looking at a WD Passport 80 gig right now as Best Buy has a very good deal. The thing is I have been reading mixed consumer reviews on the durability. Some absolutely love it while others have had issues.
