Damn, I thought I had done a good job putting my pc together until I started it. The pc starts alright, the monitor shows the BIOS (on pressing delete) but within a minute the pc shuts down.
All the fans are working properly BUT I do not hear any beeps at start up so I looked in my ASUS manual which talks of the "system panel connector" and lists the different ones: system power LED, HHD activity LED, ATX button, Reset Button and the system warning speaker, which is a 4-pin connector.
My new case is an ANTEC 900. While I saw and hooked up these connectors, there were no wires for either the Power LED or the system warning speaker (actually didn't see the speaker either)...is that normal?
I assume that once I solve this problem and hear the beeps, I'll be able to get an idea why the pc shuts down...
For info all these are new components: ANTEC 900 case, ANTEC 850W power, Intel E6850, ASUS P5KE mobo, eVGA 8800GTS 512MB, Corsair 2GB XM2 8500C5.
I'd r eally appreciate any help and apologize if this sounds like an annoying newbie problem/question..thanks.

You did remember to take off the plastic sheet on the thermal pad when you mounted the CPU/HSF, I hope?

yes I did, although I did have difficulties clamping the stock heatsink/fan on the CPU/mobo. Right now there is a bit of play when I gently pull the fan because whenever I tried to clamp it tight one of the fastener of the heatsink/fan would pop out. I was afraid of damaging the mobo or CPU and assumed it isn't supposed to be tight...correct?
Of course if I am wrong and the heatsink/fan must be tightly fastened to the CPU then my system shut off would explain that.
Also, I don't want to continue turning my pc on until I figure out where the system warning speaker and its cable are on the Antec 900 case...

Well, it seems I have solved the mystery of the missing system speaker and power LED... there are none on the Antec 900. Seems Antec feels that working fans are enough to validate that the pc is working. Unfortunately, working fans don't give much clues as to why a pc shuts down while beeps would.

With this in mind I will go back to the heatsink/fan and try again to clamp it tight on the CPU, hoping that will solve the shut down problem...

BIOS beep codes are effective... Too bad Antec deems them unnecessary. Strange they don't include a hook-up for the Power LED???

Is there perchance a visible LED on the front of the case for power??

No there isn't. However, the 4 fans that come with the case all have blue LEDs so there is no mistaking when the pc is powered up.

I have just tightened the heatsink to the mobo properly (I think!) and turned on the pc....it seems to hold! Will update later today...

Even the Harddrive LED is BLUE not Red on the 900
