Hey all,
Im trying to install a printer on vista home premium, but it WILL NOT LET ME!
I get this error: "Windows cannot open add a printer. The local printer spooler service is not running. Please restart the service or the computer."

I cant figure out what to do!

i now logged into services & manually started it. It worked...for a second. Then it shuts itself off, then turns back on, then stays off.

In the brief period it was on, i managed to click add printer, in which i get this error: "Window's Can't open add a printer. Operation cannot be completed. (Error: 0x000006be).

Go into services and set print spooler to auto and start the service

go to start>run> type> services.msc>click ok then find print spooler

It could be that a service that the Spooler service depends on is not starting.

Remove all Print Spooler service dependencies other than the Remote Procedure Call service.

Also go thru this an see if it helps

I couldn't get my printers working with Vista until I went to the manufactures web-site and downloaded drivers that would work on Vista. I don't know if this will solve your problem, but it did for me.

What printer?

I don't know if you're asking me or the original poster, but for my printers I have a Konica laser and an HP inkjet. Neither of them worked until I updated the drivers.

Try calling HP, they should have a bit more knowledge then Microsoft. after all, it's what they specialize in
