I've been trying to send a document using the OpenOffice.org program.
The recipient was unable to open this so I resent it as a .doc but still they cannot open it.
I use this as it is free and have no intention of paying for a licence fee for Microsoft Office Word and most of the time documents using OpenOffice are received without problem.

The recipient in this case has their account with BT if this is of relevance and I'm with AOL.

If I recall, you can also send the documents as PDFs, if they are in a final state and don't need editing or anything.

There are several formats that you can choose. So, depending on whether or not you need any special formatting, you can even send it as a plain text file...
