Do you remember this ad??

A few years back there ran a commercial. I'm wondering if anyone can help me with the details...here's how the commercial went...

A dark haired bearded man with around shoulder length hair and wearing what appeared to be a leather trenchcoat or duster...walks into a grocery store. At first it appears that he's shoplifting. He doesn't have a cart and proceeds to put a loaf of bread under one arm, grabs a few other items and then heads out the door. As he's passing through the door a voice comes on the intercom saying something like, "Thank you Mr. Smith for shopping with us today!"

I'm wondering what company was being advertised? And, if it might be some place on the net where I might view it again??

It was a credit card and store pricing that uses RFID to allow you to purchase your items and have them automagically tracked and charged when you leave the store... I am not sure which company, but probably Visa or Mastercard... As far as I know, no one is actually using that technology yet...

Thanks all!! The link is to a very similar ad. I don't think that one played in our area her in Minnesota, probably a regional thing, but that is the technology. I don't know if in the one we had here they actually used the name "Smith," but it definitely is the IBM technology...

I thought that was the same one that ran here... I may be remembering it wrong, but it looks awfully familiar... :confused:

I remember it being a bit simpler. The guy had a beard and shoulder length hair...same concept though, with the duster and looking like he's shoplifting. I don't remember a security guard...the voice came on and just thanked him for shopping with them as he walked out the door.

I must have just missed the linked ad... I've asked numerous people if they ever saw the ad and only a few said they had...

I haven't timed the one linked, but what you are describing sounds like a 'short version' of basically the same thing. Often, ad agencies will make several lengths of the same or similar commercials for the same product/service.

Yeah, I'm sure what I saw was a short version. Oft times though, they use the same actor...just cut out scenes. This was a different actor altogether. However, knowing it was IBM with the RFID has satisfied my curiosity...
