ok - here's the deal- i volunteer to rebuild a pc and everything goes ok until after all drivers/updates/ and patches are put on -
under hadware manager there is a damn modem that keeps getting "cannot start hardware - reason code 10" i have tried everything from different drivers to uninstalling to using safe mode to bios updates to everydamn thing else i can think of and always the same result.
its also affecting the sound, the sound drivers are installed and have "realtek AC97" installed and no conflicts
The modem is a HSP56 MR (Realtek) and im really tired of chasing my tail with newbies idea's and dead links that do nothing more than frustrate me.....

If anyone has a link or idea or anything please let me know ....

Thanks
Bean

Try a different slot, and then since they cost about 29 cents, try a different modem.

yeah, guess i left out it's integrated. no other external cards in it, and, the damn thing is making it so the sound card has no output, so there is no just ignoring it. lousy ass modems... who even uses them anymore....

Disable it in the bios

thought of that too, dont see it in the list of options, basic bios screen and hardware list happens to include everything but the modem ...
