I really am wondering why my internet connection (yeah, ok it's AOL) which is set at "Always dial my default connection" very often and without any human intervention flips over to "Never dial a connection" and, while still connecting to AOL, does not continue to connect to an URL.
Any ideas anyone?

Yoda74 - Thanks for cheering me up - actually you manage to do that day in day out. I think your postings are real gems - always cheerful and of real help to those seeking advice. By comparison my problems are insignificant when I look at some of the postings. I better start counting my blessings: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc. etc. - Alas, no labour day weekend for us poor Brits. Never mind - you can't have everything. Enjoy your weekend. Bounty hunting?

Hi Pianorak.
Well what can I say about the footy last night, that was a pretty emphatic result. A total humiliation for the Germans. Having said that, that must be the worst German team for decades. Still 5-1 is no mean feat in any international. I won't speak about Scotlands performance http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif
never mind http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif.
Anyway what exact problems are you having with your dial-up connection?
Do you have any hyperlinks on your desktop, if so do they display an Internet Explorer icon or an AOL icon.

Hi Geebee - Yes, brilliant game. Couldn't believe my eyes! The Liverpudlians were simply too good and in the second half the Germans simply gave up, with their disgusted supporters apparently leaving in droves.
I was just going to inform you and the rest of the world that I'd cracked the problem - alas, have just checked and it's flipped back to "Never dial a connection". I am beginning to believe in Ghosts (and by logical extension in an afterlife?? - Oh no, please!)
To answer your question: I have no hyperlinks on my desktop.
Anyway, I am not too fussed. At least I know how to quickly remedy this particular problem.
PS. Have started on Upgrading and Repairing PCs, A+ Certification Study Guide by Scott Mueller and Scott Berkel. Am already awfully tempted to show off and input some of my newfound (half-) knowledge. But as we all know THAT is a dangerous thing - so I'd better hold my horses! Even so, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
