Hey everybody, I’m having some computer trouble and can’t get any CD/DVD drive to work at all on my computer. I’m running Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit) just to let you guys know right off the bat. First, some background information.

I little while ago I installed a game (Sims 2 Bon Voyage) that had an anti-privacy device called SecuROM. Now my CD drive doesn’t work at all, I’ve even tried different ones; my computer won’t recognize any of them. I’ve heard countless stories online of SecuROM conflicting with DVD burner programs, Anti-Virus programs, and CD/DVD drives. I tried looking for ways to manually remove it online, and I was able to remove some files but my CD drive still didn’t work. I contacted the SecuROM tech support and all they did was give me a program to uninstall it (it said it uninstalled SecuROM, but my drive still doesn’t work).

I was wondering if it is possible to save any important files I have on here, then completely erase the hard drive and install everything again. That is the only way I can think of getting rid on SecuROM on my computer at this point, unless anyone has any other suggestions.

If I do end up doing this, I’m worried if can get my OS up and running again (what with activation codes, etc.) I have all the original CDs and serial numbers but I’m worried it might not accept it if I try to install it. I remember having to activate through the internet when I first got it. If that’s the case I have no idea how I could get around it. I’ll probably be installing two different operating systems one after another (When I bought my computer parts, I purchased an XP MCE CD that came with a free upgrade to Vista 32 bit Home Premium. So I have to worry if the computer will accept both of those.)

Thanks for reading; any help would be greatly appreciated, either advice for completely reinstalling everything or somehow removing SecuROM.
