View Full Version : Internet in NT

This one is hard, and its confusing, so follow me here.

I have three theories of going about this.

1. First off, my wireless PCI adapter, an Encore ENLWI-G, doesnt have NT drivers but does have 98SE, ME, 2k, and XP drivers.
This makes me believe the drivers are in WDM because that was first started in 98SE and was never ported to NT.
Anyway.
Everytime you try to install a piece of hardware NT asks for the file "OEMSETUP.INF" or "OEMSETNT.INF", simply renaming my ENLWI-G drivers to either one doesnt work for some reason, why?
This idea means getting my ENLWI-G working with NT, how could i possibly go about this?

OR.

2. Second off, my idea is that the fact that I use wireless, given off by a router. Now, can that wireless signal be aquired and utilized by another router? because if it can i can simply use the other router as the "internet" and use one of the ports to connect wired ethernet, with wired internet adapters i have that are supported OFFICALLY on NT, so it will be easier that way. Is this even plausible?

OR.

3. Third off here ive seen my friends Wireless xbox internet adapters, they look like wireless receptors but plug into an ethernet port, which makes me think would one of those work with a computer? and if so, how much would one cost?

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

With NT you may need to add two Protocols to get on the Internet:
Simple TCP/IP
TCP/IP
Then reinstall SP1-4.

Once you can get online with wired, then go to the wireless to see if you can get that to work. No guarantees on NT working.

That should be a RealTek 8180 card, right?

Have you tried the RealTek reference drivers?

Prnt,
im pretty sure those are installed
and mjc,

ah i read up on what you said mjc
my card could have a realtek chipset
but apparently i got the bad end, and got the Marvell chip.

Most of those cards have the RealTek chipset. I don't know if there are generic Marvell drivers...

oh, hmm well ill turn this thing off in a few and check the actual chip itself, is there a possibility that NT just is refusing the drivers for some reason?
im sure my NT install has a horrible case of DLL hell, btw also.

yep i was right, i have a Marvell chip...

the chip reads
Marvell

Further research indicates that the chip is a Marvell Libertias wireless chip
this chip has no driver under NT, or atleast none that i can find.
So, option one, crossed off.
