View Full Version : Incorrect Memory Readout of my 250MB Zip Disk
Hi Every1,
I bought a 250MB Zip disk for my Iomega drive and when I click properties from windows explorer, it is only indicating to me that its max size is 238MB!?
Does anyone know why this is the case??
Is it something to do with the number system representation between decimal and binary??
Cheers
Beno

Hi Beno,
Between format and bad spots on the disk, you would more then likely end up with less than the advertised amount of space. 12 megabytes seems like quite a lot. Have you tried other disks?
My 100 Mgb Zips only show a few kilos shy of full.
EDIT:
Just reread your post. This is a new disk you just bought. If none of your other disks do this, I would say, "bad sectors." Try running a thurough scandisk and see what it turns up.

Hi there. Actually, its 1 KB = 1024 bytes, 1 MB = 1,048,576 bytes (1024 * 1024), and 238 MB * 1,048,576 = 250,000,000 bytes. In marketing terms, the 250MB is used, but in actuality, the disc will only have 238 MB. Hope this helps.
