Okay I am running the following:

*sony vaio P4S266-VX motherboard
*Pentium 4
(Sony vaio model:PCV-7752)

And am trying to install my hard drive from my old dinosaur of a computer (pentium 2).
It was correctly working in my old computer, yet, When I go to install it into my Sony Vaio......It does the following:
*Itll boot up, saying that it reads my harddrive, then goes to the black screen where you can choose ''safe-mode all the way to start windows normally''
*If I select safe-mode, it then goes to a screen where its just scrolling through a bunch of writing, THEN it re-starts!!!!

*If I select ''start windows normally'', it sounds like its about to start up normally, yet it still just restarts!!!!

BUT.....if I re-install my harddrive into my old computer, it works perfectly fine!!!!

****By the way the type of hard drive that Im having the issues with is a Maxtor 92049U6*****

What the heck is wrong with my computer, please help me, itll be greatly appreciated!!!!

There is nothing wrong with your computer.

Windows installed on the drive for the old computer is 'customized' during the install for THAT computer. Trying to put that drive in a new machine is like trying to put a Ford engine in a Chevy car...

What flavor of Windows is on the drive in question?

Assuming you swapped-in the hard drive, you will need a WindowsXP Home installation CD. Boot to it and run either a clean installation or a parallel installation or a repair installation (http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm) to repair the existing installation.

You will need to have the correct product key at the ready and later activate the installation on the new hardware with with Microsoft. This is likely to fail if you are using an OEM Product Key already used on other hardware.
