I have trouble getting my "Old" PC to read some of my recently copied CDs.
Both Audio and Data, althuogh they all read OK on my slighly better PC.
I cannot really understand the relevance of "speed" and some other descriptions of CDs and their drivers.
Can someone help me what parameters govern the 'working/not working' of the CD-Roms. eg Driver/Disks/Hardware/Software/Speed etc..
Thanks for any guidance.

Hi Ray,
I have just finished studying this so I may be able to help.
If I get any of it wrong someone will be able to correct me.
I think the problem you have concerning the older CD-ROM drive is just a fact that most older drives don't read CD-R's or CD-RW's.
Some older drives will read a CD-R if it was written in single mode and not multi-mode. Single mode is when a CD is written in one session and multi-mode is when a CD is written to in numerous sessions.
An older CD-ROM drive won't read a CD-RW because it is recorded in multi-mode and also because it isn't as reflective as a CD-R.
What type have you used, CD-R or CD-RW?
The quality of the disks and the drive can make a difference as well.
Hope this helps, if not post back and we'll take it further. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

You could also try to install the UDF Reader which may help your CD-ROM to read the CDs. Click
here (http://www.hp.com/cposupport/information_storage/software/udfrinst.exe.html) to download the reader. Good luck!
