Ok here what I am having trouble with. I have a buddie that has two computers, one computer is sharing a internet connection with a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband router that has a security camara's on the first computer in his store. In the house is the second computer that is sharing the connection thought the router. He wants me to go and setup remote desktop from the second computer so, he can watch his store thought the computer that has the router. Well I went to Microsoft web page and printed off the steps on doing this. He already had a guy come and try to share files thought both or these computers and you can see the shared files but can't access them thought the second computer. I tryed to setup the remote desktop like microsft says but it can't connect. I got the name of the computer and the IP address. What am I doing wrong???

Thanks,
JOHN

You could try installing LogMeIn (https://secure.logmein.com/home.asp?lang=en) on computer to be accessed for an alternative way of accessing a Windows PC from anywhere or via the LAN just by using a web browser.

Setting up Windows remote access depends on which versions of Windows are involved. Basically enable Remote Desktop and add the remote users to the access list.

Another alternative (particularly on a two PC LAN) would be TightVNC (http://www.tightvnc.com/). The Sever on the one with the camera and the Client on the accessing PC. Not secure, as is, over the internet but is a great tool for LAN admin.

I got the name of the computer and the IP address. These are a linked pair and I would think you only need one or the other on a LAN. Where are you getting the IP address from?

PS If you are ever having access problems on a LAN disconnect temp from the internet and disable all firewalls and see if that solves things. Then act appropriately.

You've mentioned a computer at a store and a computer at a house. Is this to say that the two computers are connected via the internet? Or are the store and the house the same building and the two computers are actually on the same router?

yes both are sharing the connection thought the same router.

I got the IP from using the systeminfo command in dos. The IP is from the store computer.

I have setup windows firewall to let all inbound and outbound traffic come thought. I even configured it to allow remote desktop from the computer in the house which the one that I am trying to use remote desktop.

Once again - which versions of Windows are in use and what specific messages do you get when you try to access the visible shares. As long as write access is enabled on the host computer then some incorrect network element or firewall setting seems high on the cards - particularly when you also seem to have a problem accessing the remote desktop. Are you just using the Windows firewall or are there any specific things blocked in the router or another software firewall running in windows such as NIS or whatever?

PS
Are you logging-on to both computers with the same or a different User Name and with or without a password?

I would figured It would be windows pro since according to microsoft help, its have to have windows pro to use remote desktop. I am using windows firewall and configured them both on bothcomputers. They have nothing else but, AVG free running.
