Is it possible to do this from an old HDD to new HDD with a new motherboard? Or do you have to do a Windows Repair or reinstall when adding a new motherboard?
I want to clone a HDD (IDE) to HDD (SATA) with a new Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 motherboard.
(My older motherboard is all IDE so I can't clone to the SATA HDD)
Basically, any motherboard change means at least a 'repair' install...I and many others prefer a fresh, clean install with the change.

My older motherboard is all IDE so I can't clone to the SATA HDDYou can clone IDE to SATA in a few ways using USB externally or, with that board, using its one IDE connector and the relevant HDD slaved onto it, be it all temporarily. There are other software approaches but using the HDD maker's own utility would be the most straightforward most of the time. If the old OS is 2K or XP then a repair install (and in the latter case a reactivation) would be necessary. Making image file(s) as intermediaries would be another approach.
