it appears I need this.

where did it go, and how do I get it back ??

cannot open some apps, not necessarily ones that use an internet connection.. (I'm connected just fine right now)

read ALLOT of this and that, but none of it helped at all.......

thanks Pete,

I kinda know what it is supposed to be.. and I appreciate that link for the download!

now I wonder why because of *not* having this, sisoftsandra, and several other things are looking for this.. not- exclusive to apps that need any type connection.

I downloaded the ICMP.DLL.

Wonder what I am to do with it..

hehe

C:\windows\system, that is where it belongs...

Sandra uses it because it tests things like Winsock info...

yes mjc, I know this, but also because of this missing thing I keep getting explorer errors and it being closed. I don't have to reboot when this occurs (unusual) but most everything keeps working. (just not visable in system tray.

Now, yahoo, icq, and other internet applications work ok??

I admit to not knowing where to put the ICMP......

It has been over a year of extreme heavy use, win98se may need a reformat/reinstall.

apparently your problem has already been solved, but the following is good to know.

Win9x has a File Checker Utility, which will scan for corrupt and/or missing system files and restore them from your Install CD. It also has an option for restoring a specific dll file.

I always try File checker before looking for downloads from the internet. Try the following next time.

Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information, Tools Menu, and finally System File Checker.

thanks, and I did that...... there was much more to my problem than that, but your point is well taken.
