Hi everyone,

I'm trying to configure a 830LR mobo from pcchips using a duron 900Mhz processor. The clock settings are configured in the bios and under cpu setting the options are 100/100, 133/100, 100/133, and 133/133. The multiplier is set at 9x.

Question: what does the 1st and second number refer to? cpu speed? fsb? memory bus speed?? I can't seem to change the multiplier as well, since the instruction manual seems to be rushed and therefore uninformative. Is there a way to change the multiplier?

Question: what are ide drivers and do i need to install them?? i haven't done so and the system seems to work fine...

thank you for your responses... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Hi Kalifaye.... I'll try not to sound confusing here.

Your Duron 900 by default has a multiplier of 9X and is a B model chip. This requires a FSB of 100. Yes there are ways to unlock the multiplier on the CPU itself but that comes under the heading of overclocking. So I won't go into that. Would only void the warranty anyhow.

The #'s you refered to are FSB/Memory Bus Speed. IE: 100/100 would be FSB of 100 and PC100 memory. 100/133 would be FSB 100 and PC133 memory.

The 133/100 and 133/133 would be used for the C series AMD processor.

Here is the confusion. B Series uses 100 FSB and it is doubled to 200 when it gets to the chip. C Series uses 133 FSB and it is doubled to 266 when it gets to the chip. These figures are for the CPU only and have nothing to do with the memory Bus Speed.

IDE drivers are need for the floppy drive, CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, Hard Drive, etc. Evidently Windoz loaded it's own drivers for you when you installed your OS. As you stated the system is working fine.

My only suggestion now is (check your manual and make sure you have the Via chipset) go to the VIA website and download the latest 4in1 drivers.

Luck.
