Just read a post on another site where the MB was the same as mine...A7V133 and the dude was having problems with his SB Live 5.1 card. The Creative tech directed him into the BIOS to adjust the PCI Latency Timer, or the PCI Bus Latency Timer which is set by default to 32...had him set to (0). What do it do?

I don't want to jinx myself, but I hear about problems with the 5.1 and ASUS boards all the time...but I have the A7V133 also and the 5.1 Platinum and I've had no problems with it at all...must have gotten lucky with putting it in the right PCI slot the first time...

Bass,
Yes Indeed! Most of the posts on ASUS NETQ FORUM were from "young 'uns" looking for gaming performance. ASUS seems to routinely smoke the competition in testing, but the boards are not for the faint of heart!
If you look on page 29 of the manual you will see the Interrupt Request Table and there it shows which slots share resources...not just IRQ, but a bit more intimate. Like if you are using the ATA 100 you would want to leave slot 2 open as it shares with the Promise Controller. Same of course for the AGP...leave slot 1 open. I just chatted with their Tech-support yesterday regarding my inability to enable my DMA and had pulled my NIC card cause it was giving me difficulties.
They suggested putting the SB in slot 5...modem in 3 or 4 along with NIC in either 3 or 4. I don't remember (I'm at my office) what the USB controller was sharing with...however, if someone is using USB game controller and playing on line...then they would want to make sure the Modem was not slot sharing with the USB.
As an aside, I just noticed while in the BIOS yesterday...searching for an answer to the DMA thing...that I had not enabled the AGP, nor had I enabled the O/S PnP for assigning IRQs through Windows...will wonders never cease! Ah, but all part of the pursuit of "whyzdom!"
