I have a Compaq Presario 7480 Win98, System Memory - 64MB 100 MHz SyncDRAM

I have just upgraded from 64MB RAM to 128MB RAM but I now get the following message at boot.

"164-memory size error"

Cant understand how it could be a size error because I put in another (1) 64MB of PC-100.

Appreciate any help anyone can give, and thanks in advance.

Howdy,

Leave the new memory in and when the computer is booting up, hit F10 to enter Setup. (You will see the cursor blink in the upper right-hand side of the screen for a second or five. Hit F10 when you see that cursor. Watch closely for it because you only have a short period of time before it's too late and then you'll have to reboot again to catch it)

Once you're in CMOS Setup, DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING, just Save and Exit. That should rewrite the CMOS to the proper settings for your new amount of memory.

Post back if further problems.

Cheers,

Thanks for your help yoda74 & BigBlue66.

The problem was that the amount of memory found during the POST did not match the amount of memory in the CMOS setup. I did as you suggested BigBlue66 and that solved the problem..

Thank you
