Very very odd... I keep some images of things I find amusing or whatnot and a whole group of them and other images just up and vanished...should I run some sort of scan?
Can anyone recommend a piece of freeware that can help me retrieve these files?
Thank you in advance.

Now I am getting another weird message (it first occurred just now after I exited the PC game "Diablo II" and I am not sure if it is Diablo II-related or what):
The instruction at "0x7c92ae22" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".
Click ok to terminate program.
I do use my Creative MediaSource Organizer (think Winamp or Realplayer if you are not familiar with it) while doing "magic find runs" on Diablo II (thus using two sources of sound, the game's and the Organizer's, at the same time), so maybe I am taxing out my memory too much...??
Earlier on I did hear a "scream" come from my computer while I was using both sources of sound, so I hit alt+tab and shut down the Organizer.
God everything on my comp is so "glitchy" as of late...

hmmm... 0x00000000 does not exist in the RAM. So anything "referencing " it would crash.
Post a hijack this log. it could be a virus.
OR it could be windows updater (basically, anything)
search for "0x7c92ae22" and see what turns up!
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=7kq&q=0x7c92ae22&btnG=Search
wasn't all that helpful, but JAVA seems to come up in the search, so try reinstalling it with the latest version.

Note: I also get this problem with something from this location (I am not sure if that is something that relates to the above problem(s)):
0xc0000142 (or something like that, I am not sure if it is "spelled" like that)
It pops up on my screen when I have a certain program (that I am not sure I can mention on here) active for an hour or something along those lines.
I probably do need to install the newest version of Java, do you think you can point me to it so that I know I am getting the right update (or is this it:
http://java.com/en/download/windows_xpi.jsp?locale=en&host=java.com:80 ; btw, I am running Firefox version 2.0.0.12).
Is it bad for my sound card/computer's sound system in general to be listening to music like I described above while playing a video game like that?

"Can anyone recommend a piece of freeware that can help me retrieve these files?"
Which file system in use on the partition holding the files? NTFS? FAT32?
Use the FREE version of GetDataBack (http://www.runtime.org/) [there are versions for NTFS or FAT] to retrieve the files one-by-one.
Don't write anything to the HDD until you've retrieved them.
To do the work, slave your HDD into a system that has GetDataBack installed.

blah, I've downloaded and deleted things already, hopefully I didn't delete over too much of the stuff I lost...
This is probably a really dumb question, but if my "C:" is a NTFS, I should get the NTFS, right?

"I should get the NTFS, right?"
So I believe; I never needed to use it myself [yet], so am no expert in its use.
Most of the people who HAVE used it thought it was wonderful.
It doesn't need the file tables; goes straight to the contents on the sectors.

One thing...I can't remove my HD because it is screwed in with some special screw that probably only techs and Gateway people can get rid of, so removing my HD is a problem...
Thanks for your attempt though... I guess I can't get help with this.
I'll try to keep a better back up of things from now on and will just get the media I can get from my external (I backed up most of them, but not all, oh well...).
Thanks for your help everyone.

"it is screwed in with some special screw"
What kind of slot?
Describe it.
Is it "star"/cross shaped? [Philips or "Posidrive"]
Hexagonal? [Allen Key]

I decided to let it go because I don't want to have to buy a special screwdriver to get my HD out, thanks for your help anyway Sylvander.
so maybe I am taxing out my memory too much...??
Test it with http://www.memtest.org/
A sure test for flaky RAM is to put it to the test which usually ends in freezes, blue screens etc.. Such as opening several pages and apps, playing videos while downloading files... And many times, it can appear to be the hard drive when the RAM is actually the culprit at fault.
The only way to know is to test it/them.

Thx for the tip, I'll give it a whirl.
EDIT: It seems I will need a floppy...blah, I threw them all out, stupid move...
BTW, do you have a link to some clearer instructions...the ones on the README are jumbled about (as if I were supposed to open it up with something other than with Notepad)...
Many Linux LiveCDs have a memtest option...
Memtest itself offers a bootable ISO...
Also change the word wrap setting in Notepad to make the ReadMe more readable.
