dvd speeds

I'm going to buy a dvd rom soon but I've noticed about a 20-30 dollar difference between 12x and 16x. Being the scrooge that I am, I'd like to know if there is really any huge difference in performance between the two. Also, MS just recently put up applications for DX9 beta testers. Just wondering if anyone has any idea when they might release DX9. Thanks guys.

All 12x and 16x means that you can fast forward faster. Stupid huh? But just make sure that the drive is not a older one that needs a pci card to go with it. Get the one with the drive only , that doesnt need the pci card. See ya leichaolan

Thanks man. I got an LG 16X for about $97 after taxes (CAN money, eh) Such a huge improvement over my 24X cdrom.....
