Is there enough room on a 2GB HDD for win98 to operate?
If so, would I still be able to use my programs/games? without having them
run slow due to no HDD space?

Things will get cramped in a hurry.
Download a program or two and your HDD will be full quickly.
Then the fun begins... Disc compression, etc. Hassle.
Luck.

It depends though. I've only used 866mb out of a 5gb partition, to include Win 98, and I've got all I need. If you're not gaming or saving stuff like music or video, 2gb is plenty. My machine is strictly business and net.

Yep, I'm running on a 2GB partition right now, along with Word97, Front Page, Image Composer, MS Works, MS Money, IE 5, iPhoto Plus, Adobe Acrobat 4, a couple of small games (up to 10-15MB), McAffee virus scan and Nuts & Bolts. Still have 1.4GB free space.
Win98 will fit and run on a 540MB drive, actually a 340MB would work, but you'd have no room at all for other programs...and you'd want something larger than 540MB to be able to use FAT32.
