Being a member here, I have come across some very interesting avatars.
I thought perhaps some of you might like to describe what your avatar is, and why you chose it.
I'll get the ball rolling - my avatar is an enhancement-mode P-channel MOSFET transistor.
I chose this for my avatar, as I think it is a cool looking component symbol, and I am an electronics tech, so wanted an electronics-based avatar.

For the longest time I simply used the default avatar. Some time back, a gal who I became good friends with here passed away. Those of us who knew here and dealt with her were pretty shocked and upset. I created the avatar in Paint and offered it to anyone else who wanted it and several did. As time went on most have changed their avatar to something more personal and that is cool. I keep mine because I really don't have anything more important to say here.
Thanks for starting this thread. ;)

I want mine to remain as a continuing memorial to Kay. :)
May I never forget her, but retain fond memories so long as I live and have a mind to remember with. :D

Mine pretty much depicts how I feel about what is the back-bone of our society; and it's the family unit. I know--I know--a lot of you may think that I'm a little old-fashioned. Well--I am. But in my old-fashioned way of thinking, I think that the family unit is not what it used to be. I wish we could get back to it. You know--mom and dad and children--sitting around the dinner table and having good conversation. But, like I said, I'm probably just too much old-fashioned.

I was just reading the kayofcircles thread (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=25655) (and this (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=28038&highlight=kayofcircles)) it is very heart warming to see how much you all cared about her. In some peoples eyes she would be a forum member but here we are all friends ;)
Thankyou for making the PC guide such a nice place to be

Thanx Mini_Me for starting this thread. I miss Kay every day and some days, with life being soooo busy, I don't remember her enough. This was a sad but nice trip down memory lane (sniff) ;)

... cancer. My grandfather died of cancer in the 70's. i never met him.. but i have heard so many stories....
i feel like i knew him... and i feel the same way about kayofcircles... even though she was before my time...
just from this thread...
/off-topic
if i could, (the forum would not let me), i would be able to change the image dynamically every month or so.
its actually quite fun.

Cancer - my aunt died of it, and my favorite singer in the world, with the best voice I have ever heard(Eva Cassidy) also was taken from us...
:(
Still, it's nice that some of us immortalize them in things such as forum avatars.

I took my avatar from the scene where the Grinch is at his most sinister. The scene where he is peaking up over the end of the bed about to take the candy canes from the sleeping Who children. :p
Although I have softened up some over the last several years I really don't like the holidays. It isn't the holidays I don't like, or rather the spirit of the holidays, but the lack of the true holiday spirit in the holidays. They are nothing but a bunch of crap these days.
It doesn't help that my wife and kids love the holidays and start listening to Christmas music in June. I'm totally burnt out on it by September.
*heart shrinks another size too small* :p

My avatar is the coat of arms of my home town.
I won't mention the name here since I don't want google caching it.
If any one is curious for the name send me an pm.

This is my second avatar that I started using.
My first one was the metallic "H" with my name at the bottom. H stands for Hawker S Harrier. A code name I was using back in High School(Flashbacks goes here).
This second one was influenced by an anime called "One Piece" I saw that each "pirate crews" have their own flag so I decided to make a version of my own. The result is what you see now.

I've had several, including a couple I dreamed up myself and struggled through Gimp or some other unfamiliar software to create. The current one is my Fender Squier Stratocaster with the psychedelic pickguard that replaced the original boring plain white one.

I wonder what the cavemen would do, if they got close enough to the cliff, to actually see the "Real" dragon?

PALEO_PETE - Always liked the guitar motif. The pick-guard is very cool, against the white of the guitar itself. :)
not so nerdy - HydroCarbon powered eco-vehicle - excellent contradiction! :D

Been lookin' over this thread tonight, and notice no new posts since 3rd April 2008, so before this thread dies totally(anything over 12 months I consider "Dead"), I thought I would see if I could re-stimulate those of you who have not posted, or those that have, but have updated their avatars, to post... ;)

I wonder what the cavemen would do, if they got close enough to the cliff, to actually see the "Real" dragon? They're knights in shining armor off to slay the little green sock-puppet dragon(I know; they are terribly small in the pic). As for what they'd do when they reached the cliff? I think thats what the dragon's flyswatter is for.

Well..
1. I like animals of all sorts...especially dogs and birds...I have a Blue Crowned Amazon Parrot, a blue eyed Siberian Husky, and a Golden Retriever.
2. The first time I saw an Eagle was wile I was in the US Air Force and out in the desert. It was on a tree limb looking down at me...like he was in total control...majestic, magnificent...but endangered.
3. The Eagle is our national symbol. Ironically, Benjamin Franklin wanted it to be the turkey...which, in light of some recent history, might have been appropriate. But I'm glad the right choice was made.
4. I live very near Philadelphia...home of the Eagles football team, and I am a fan...and I am a rabid world champion Phillies baseball fan.
5. I am a veteran, a patriot, and still proud of my country, despite some bumps in the road and what others might think...thus the flag. I've been in 19 countries, 6 of seven continents, and both hemispheres. Other countries are great (I especially love Japan, Germany, Australia, and Norway), but this is my home and I'm happy every time I return.

No thanks needed.
It is and was my duty and responsibility. :)
my avatar represents the spiritual, rather than the physical, version of me. it shows me as a teenaged n'daya boy (a real, dyed in the wool techie-geek) munching on christmas cookies while relaxing at my n'daya parents' palace on the perfect, heavenly world of acca where nothing can go wrong (such as your computer's hard drive crashing and you losing all your important files as happens so frequently on this planet [earth]). I self-created this avatar and it appears in one of the comic books i made using comic book creator by planetwide games. i'm a writer at leisure and i write comic books about my new heavenly life in which i help my creator on various worlds on christian exploratory missionaries by visiting these worlds and assisting people on these worlds to unravel mysteries just as national geographic explorer does on tv.
really, i think it's a really, super good idea for people here to talk about their avatars! a double thumbs up!
i do a lot of thinking about heaven (where our creator has his great throne with all his angels) and i've created acca as one of our creator's heavenly planets within his kingdom of heaven.
