Today I was transferred in to a home based office. I brought my desktop from my offcice in to my home. Everything went well until I suddenly lost connection to my internet (which i really need). I started playing around witht the settings and now I can't log in to windows XP. My password is not recognized anymore. I know i can call the IP people on monday but I also would prefer to sove this problem and get myself ready. I tried to bypass the log in step in safe mode but it doesn`t work.
here is what I screwed up:open network connectoins, right click on the connections, and then i basically changed the setting from an office network setup to a home based setup. I was asked to reboot and since ten I can't log in to windows
.
Any help is appreciated.
thank you

You need to talk to your office IT dept about the connection (usually VPN) to connect to the office network.
XP does not let you ignore passwords, unlike the older Windows 98.

ok, but this is not a VPN issue, this is way before that because I can't even load the OS...i'm basically stuck with the BIOS only

1. The ideal is to have an image backup of all the partitions needed by Windows to function normally; probably only the C: partition.
When ANYTHING of a software nature goes wrong, you just restore your latest image and Windows is back up and running as normal.
This works even when Windows isn't working, or won't boot.
2. If you don't have that...
The next fall-back position is to use Windows own Restore Points.
This only works if Windows is functioning well enough to do the necessary.
Do you have any of those, and can you get in far enough to restore one to immediately before the change?
3. You might try using the XP Recovery Console (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058) to use the LOGON command to type in your Administrator Account password [tell me you know it!].
I've never done LOGON myself, but have supplied my admin password to get the Recovery Console working.
It's possible to have the Recovery Console installed to your HDD [mine is, and works], otherwise you use it from your XP installation optical disk.
"The logon command lists all detected installations of Windows and then requests the local administrator password for the copy of Windows that you want to log on to. If your first three tries to log on fail, the console closes, and your computer restarts."
4. I don't see any sign that the Recovery Console helps with Restore Points.
