..I am lacking some networking knowledge. Ok so we are switching ISPs at work but I don't think my internal IP addresses will work with the new ISPs subnet.

My current set up is:
Internal IPs: 172.20.1.1-172.20.1.150
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Which should give me the ability to have 254 ip addresses.

My new set up has a subnet mask of 255.255.255.252
which seems to only give me the ability to have 3 IP addresses.

How can I get more Internal IP addresses through my DHCP? Am I missing something? If I change my internal IP address range can I get more available IP addresses? Can I change the new subnet mask?

Thanks everyone. Please feel free to fire some questions back at me.

Your ISP will assign you IP addresses to use for your connection. You will not be free to setup your own. However since you currently use IP addresses in the "172.20" range I am betting that you have a router or other network device that sets between your internal network and the internet. In this case you only need to change the external interface of this device to your new IP. Your internal network won't need any ip address changes.

Good luck :)

right-o ghost,

I forgot that the isp gives you their subnet thus dictating the limited amount of IPs they give you, and then you dictate your own for your internal ip's. I didnt have to change my internals i just used the /24 subnet again.

Thanks again.
