Now i am able to start the laptop but there is no screen it just stays black, but i do get a power light and i get a thinking light too. After that it just stays black i tried replacing the bios battery but i may have not taking it out long enough(5 mins). Other then that i havent tried much. I inserted the xp install cd, didnt do anything.
Anyway i hope you guys can help me out

First remove battery for 30 min bios should revert to default settings. another option is to clear the CMOS. On motherboard
Pins 1 & 2 are normal mode and pins 2 & 3 will Clear the CMOS (BIOS)!Check your manual for your specific settings. also you could Try booting to a floopy boot disk! http://www.bootdisk.com/ has everything youll need.If none of this works you will have to get bios chip replaced.

Hi when you say pins 1 and 2 what exactly does this mean are the jumpers or is it just a switch ??? and i tried findin a manual for it put it only tells me where the rtc switch is to reset bios password.

Thanks for the reply though

Does Acer offer the BIOS in a format that can used outside of Windows? Like from a floppy disk or some other bootable media?

If it does, you may need to make a scripted boot floppy to automatically flash the BIOS. Also some BIOSs offer a recovery feature...you need to find the manual.

If you have an open PCI slot and access to a PCI video card you can try installing it. Often times, with a fairly modern BIOS, the PCI card will be 'live' and allow you to see what you are doing...

this is a laptop not a pc.

I didn't look at the model, so I was just going with desktop procedures....

In that case, do you go fishing a lot?

It may not be totally gone, but blind flashing a laptop is one of the more difficult things to do...besides laptop tops, these days, usually don't have floppies...

Wow,I also never realized this was a laptop.without a floppy looks like you will have to search a new chip. good luck.

Boat Anchor = a laptop that has been converted into a mass of useless junk by wiping out the BIOS . There is little hope of self recovery from this status with most laptops.
