I just reinstalled win98se (using the all problem solving technique known as format c http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif, then restored all my programs and files. Now, it runs so much faster than before. Why is this? I literally put everything that was in the old os back into this one. Even my gigs of mp3s. It also seems to have more space. Before formatting I had 13 or so gigs. After reinstallation and restoration, I now have 15. What's up wid dat?

Sounds like your drive might have been badly fragmented. How often do you dump the junk? Or defrag?
A little maintenance goes a long way, especialy if you are online alot http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

Oh man I treat my pc as if it was my kid. I defragged about once every 2-3weeks, I'm wary about putting in junk, I delete them temp files about every 3days, I even clean out old registry entries for stuff that is uninstalled. Physically, I clean out the stuff inside with one of those wondrous circuit cleaners (the ones that spew out a malodourous liquid that dries in like 3 seconds) the only possible variable is win98se. Oh well, everything's good now so I guess I'll just have to take my obsessive compulsive behaviour to the next level.
