I know this question has probably been asked hundreds of times, but I couldn't find a thread that had a satisfactory answer in it.

I'm trying to connect my computer to an old RCA 26 inch television in my room. It's not flat screen or high definition, just an old, very large TV (essentially an oversized CRT monitor). It's been laying around for about 2 years, we bought it 3 years ago, and seeing as my monitor is a 13 inch, well I'm sure you'd understand why I want to switch. What type of cable would I need to connect the TV to the computer? I checked on Newegg, but all the cables were for either HD or Flatscreen, and this is neither.

Thanks.

You could try S-Video to RCA Video. (assuming your laptop has S-Video) Then just plug your headphones in using the headphone plug to RCA Audio.

Probably should have clarified, but I'm using a desktop. Would that still work on a desktob?

desktob?
not sure, but if you have a good GPU, then it should work on your desktop

(it should have some connectors, S-video to component most likely)

If your desktop has an S-Video out, it will still work. If you don't know what you are looking for. there can be upto 3 (usually) ports that look similar. two of those are for mouse and keyboard. the third would be for S-Video. If you use USB mice and keyboard, and there is a port that looks like it could be used for a mouse or Keyboard, then it is probably S-Video.

(***note: there are 4 slots for pins on an S-video plug, where as a mouse/keyboard plug has a different number, but on first glance, they are very similar***)

for PS/2 connections, yes, S-video looks like them.

this connection should be on the back of your video card:
from newegg, for demonstration purposes: www.newegg.com

and this image is what counts:

see the HDTV cable? that is the cable that hooks up to you TV.

this is just a sample, but most GPUs have this, just not in the same location.

Okay, I think I remember seeing those when I connected the monitor. But I have a really bad case of the flu right now, can barely walk. So I'll have to either get my sister to check for me when she gets off work or do it sometime tomorrow.

Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it.
