Please please!!!Need help with Macbook!

Can someone tell me what happened with my BF's Mac? He stayed at my place last night and left his labtop closed but in "sleep" mode.Next morning, in the log on history shows "computer wake" at 2:56.57am then it was closed at 2:57am. We both did not even touch the computer until this morning. Now he think I tried to log onto his computer in middle of the night, I can not make him trust me but I really want to know why this happened. Can someone PLEASE help me???

It is possible to arouse a sleeping Mac with WakeOnRing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake-on-Ring) (if attached to a tel modem) or WakeOnLAN (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake-on-LAN) (if attached to a network - wired or wireless) or with any vibrations that cause the mouse to move. Did the earth move that night maybe. ;) Three seconds of earth movement seems very small though.

If it wasn't 'off' then any number of things could have caused it... and if he is so paranoid about a late night logon attempt then he should be turning it off and not putting it in 'sleep' mode.
